Oxfordshire wedding celebrant attends wedding fairs to help engaged couples know their wedding ceremony options
Sadly, wedding celebrant Suzi meets too many couples who didn’t know all of their amazing wedding ceremony options when they were booking their wedding venue
Suzi, who loves nothing more than creating truly joyful and celebratory wedding ceremonies for her couples explains here what the options are for your wedding day ceremony…
“Ready to be wowed with the most important wedding planning blog you will EVER read? Great, because this blog could be a game-changer for you and your wedding day :)
When you book your wedding venue, if they are a licensed venue they will always remind you to book the registrar. But that’s just because it isn’t their responsibility.
What’s important to know when wedding planning is that there are many ways to register your marriage with a council registrar.
Yes, you can have a legal ceremony at a licenced wedding venue, but many couples now choose to register their marriage in a simple and very popular Statutory Ceremony in advance of their wedding day celebrations at the Register Office. After all, that’s the purpose of the Register Office, to register marriages! Oh, and a Statutory Ceremony is commonly known as a 2 plus 2.
Why choose a statutory ceremony though?
Because it happily gives you the freedom to have a truly joyful ceremony on your wedding day anytime and anywhere with me - a familiar and friendly face at the end of the aisle.
A wedding ceremony without any rules or restrictions or strict timelines to adhere to, but with truly bespoke personal vows, promises and memorable moments, music and readings of your choice - even a toast with your favourite tipple - and, of course, your very own story. Hurray!
And as I only book one wedding each day, you can rest assured that even if you or a guest are running late, or we want to wait for the weather to pass over for an outdoor ceremony, I won't need to be anywhere else and can be totally flexible. I’m all yours. You can even enjoy your favourite tipple while getting ready for your wedding day, risk-free, as there are no legal documents to sign with me. AMAZING!
…And, what’s also great is that venues, licensed or not, really don’t mind what type of ceremony you have - they will be thrilled to host you either way. Hurray!
Let me share more about a 2 plus 2 ceremony…
This is where you and your partner attend the Register Office with two witnesses, make the basic statutory declarations and sign your marriage certificate with a council registrar - sometimes confusingly called a celebrant registrar.
It’s usually a mid morning appointment on a weekday that costs around £60 depending on your council. Then you can head out for a celebratory lunch, knowing that the business end of things (legal registration of your marriage) has been taken care of. Hurray!
And if you’ve already booked the registrar for your venue? Don't worry. LOTS of my couples simply change the booking with the council registrar for a statutory ceremony once they know all of their ceremony options.
Just say you've had a change of plans and change the booking to a 2+2 Statutory Ceremony with them ahead of time.
Do book it ASAP though as councils only offer a limited number which is a shame when it’s your statutory right to have one if you so wish. But that’s a topic for another blog :)
